How it works
Multiplication and division are the easy pair: multiply straight across, or invert the second fraction and multiply. Addition and subtraction need a common denominator first.
Simplifying divides both parts by their greatest common divisor, found with Euclid's algorithm — repeatedly replace the larger number with the remainder of dividing it by the smaller, until one of them is zero.
